Supervisors: Their Questions
Q. I am a supervisor. What are some ways that I can be supportive
of title prefix review opportunities for academic staff members
that I supervise?
A. Start by helping academic staff understand the title prefix review process
when you meet with them for their annual performance review. Encourage them
to create and maintain a portfolio of their work, which you can periodically
review with them. You can also clarify the criteria and process that will be
used to evaluate their title prefix review request. Before they submit their title prefix review documentation packet, you can help by reviewing and critiquing the materials for completeness
and readiness.
Q. How do I make sure that the title prefix review
documentation packet that I receive includes all of the required pieces
of documentation? Is there a checklist that I could use?
A. Yes, there are four “Title Review Request” (TRR)
forms with checklists. Each checklist varies depending upon the category
of the academic staff (A or B) and the title prefix they
are seeking. Here are the links:
Q. What should I do if I receive a title prefix review documentation packet
that doesn’t include one or more of the required documents?
A. Return the incomplete packet to the academic staff member and
explain what is missing. You can reference UPG #15
( http://www.uwex.edu/secretary/policies/section7/upg15.pdf)
and the appropriate Title Review Request form (see above) as your sources when counseling the academic staff member on how to complete their request.
Q. What should I do if I receive a title
prefix review documentation packet that does not demonstrate work that meets
the criteria?
A. Provide honest, clear feedback and give the academic staff member
a chance to reconsider before sending the documentation packet on for formal review.
