A. Category “A” is an academic staff position that is defined
as professional or technical . These academic staff positions support Cooperative
Extension educational or instructional efforts. Following are the most common
Category A titles currently used in Cooperative Extension. (For additional titles, see

- Administrative Program Specialist
- Information Processing Consultant
- Instructional Specialist
- Outreach Specialist
Q. In Category A, what title prefixes are used?
A. Most title series are differentiated by one of three prefixes.
The prefixes -- associate, no prefix, and senior -- reflect
the successively greater experience, expertise, and applied ability and
responsibility that are required of the position. Some title series have an "Assistant" prefix as the entry-level prefix.
